How am I surviving without a helper?

Pretty tough, I must say!

I am constantly tired out from having to squat to Ai Ai's level to carry her, clear her potty and dress her, esp. with an expanding belly.
Meals are quick-fixes which I can prepare beforehand during her naptime, so I can still spend the afternoon playing with her and taking her to the playground before dinner.
If I am too tired to cook, R will tabao dinner from his school canteen... although I try to cook as much as I can.

I'm not sure how I am going to cope when Baby #2 comes along.
Everything will probably be a blur, but we'll make it :)

A simple lunch - organic beef patty sandwich

My quick-fix dinner -
"Grilled Tropical Pork Skewers with rice and Carrot/Corn Soup"

To Zoo with Godma!

We went to the zoo on Sunday with Godma.
Ai Ai had a whale of a time playing around with Godma's binoculars which I requested LP to bring along for her.
And guess what we saw? An elephant eating another's poop... and Ai Ai probably saw everything magnified with her binoculars.

When will we ever get into Chiltern House?

I rang up Chiltern House yesterday, and guess what?
Our position has dropped from #39 to #41, maybe because some kid with siblings in there has cut our waitlist.
Or maybe some kiasu mommy has decided to enrol her kid in JG classes so he can cut the queue.
Anyway, the lady in charge of enrolment told me I could also try to get higher up on the waitlist at #30 by enrolling Ai Ai into any JG programs for at least 2 terms (6 mths).
But seriously, would #30 or #41 make much of a difference?

Hello, I am 2 years old

Hello, I am 2 years old.
I do not pee pee on the floor.
I pee pee in the potty.

This is what she's been saying for the past 2 days :)
Sometimes she does other versions such as:

Hello, I am 2 years old.
I do not pee pee on the mat.
I pee pee in the potty.

Update on NUH Re-scan

Went for my re-scan alone at NUH yesterday as R had to stay at home and look after Ai Ai.
We didn't want Ai Ai to go along cos of all the H1N1 scare.
I waited for 2.5hrs before my name was called, by which time my bladder was really full!
This kiasu mommy didn't want to go to the toilet in case I missed my name being called and have to wait again :P

During the scan, the chief sonographer was really nice - kept reassuring me that everything looks OK although I could still see the potential VSD gap on the screen.
But I guess I've already come to terms with the situation so I wasn't too upset by what I saw.
This little gap will not affect baby's lifestyle in any way, except that he/she will probably not be an Olympian :)

When Prof. Biswas came in later to interpret the findings, he reassured me that it should not be a cause for worry, but we can always let the paediatrician know about it at birth.

My main concern was:
Would this 1mm gap become bigger relative to the baby's size?
i.e. as the baby grows in my tummy, would this gap become bigger?

His answer:
Baby's heart has doubled in the last one month, from the time the 1mm gap was spotted.
Now a month later at the re-scan, gap is still the same at 1mm.
If it was significant, it would have become bigger. So in our case, it's really no cause for worry.

Whew! What a relief!

P/S. He mentioned baby looks a little small, only at the 5th percentile for its gestational age. When I told him Ai Ai was a small baby too, he said that it could be just genetic then :)

My not-so-successful attempt at Pointillism Art

I read with enthusiasm about Mommy Joyce's work on Pointillism Art and decided to give it a try with Ai Ai this afternoon.
Unfortunately, this mommy is not as creative and hence our final work didn't turn out to be as nice as hers :P
I guess that's the reason why she is an art teacher!
I'll need to take some lessons from her :)

Ai Ai busy with her work :)

Our very plain piece of work, thanks to this not-so-creative mommy

Ai Ai spilled half a bottle of yellow paint,
so we decided to finger-paint a sunflower
But R thought it was a chrysanthemum! :P

Re-Scan at NUH

Tomorrow is my re-scan for the 5th mth detailed scan at NUH.
Wish me all the best!

Pat's, Chiltern or Montessori?

I had previously set my sights on Ai Ai going to a Montessori school in Bishan area, but after a good friend sent her daughter there and gave me some very frank reviews about it, R and I decided against it and made a decision to send Ai Ai to a more established preschool.

Lots of my friends have sent their kids to Chiltern, and I have witnessed the toddlers blossoming into confident, outgoing children.
However, this mommy has been a little too relaxed in checking out the preschools, and hence when I called up Chiltern Halifax 2 weeks ago, I was #40 on their waitlist!
Desperate, I tried Pat's Halifax and it was slightly better at #11 on waitlist.
However, if no one pulls out by October, we may remain on the waitlist indefinitely *sigh*

Pat's admin staff told me that there will be a new centre opening in Whitley area end of this year, and they would keep me informed if that centre is opening any Playgroup class for Ai Ai's age.
Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Still, I do not have many friends who sent their kids to Pat's, and I am still researching on whether Pat's curriculum is as comprehensive as that of Chiltern's.

Next up - research on Primary School! :P

May I go swimming? Yes!

Here's Ai Ai asking to go swimming.
We've been keeping her away from the pool as she had a persistent cough (this is the 3rd week!)
The cough doesn't really bother her except in the nights when her sleep gets disturbed.
Still, we didn't want to take a chance that she may catch pneumonia from the freezing pool... can that really happen?
Her latest favourite thing to do is to ask a question and reply it for us by saying "Yes" immediately after the question.
If we say "no", she'll ask the question again and quickly answer "yes" herself! :)

Fish cost two dollar(s)

R teaches at night on Tuesdays, so this is my "bath day" with Ai Ai.
(R usually gives Ai Ai her evening baths)
As we were playing with her rubber teddy, she surprised me with this:

Me: Is the bear hungry?
Ai Ai: Yes
Me: Will you buy some fish for him?
Ai Ai, looking at me and stretching out her palm: Fish cost two dollar
(She cannot really pronounce "s" properly yet)
Me: Here's two dollars!
Ai Ai: Thank you

Then she pretends to tell some imaginary "uncle" that she wants some fish and proceeded to feed her bear :)
